How long does it take to get a building permit in Ghana?
The official processing window is generally 30 to 90 days once a complete application is submitted, but real timelines vary by Assembly and project complexity. Complete, accurate documents are the biggest factor in avoiding delays.
What documents do I need for a building permit?
Typically: the Assembly's application form, architectural and structural drawings, a site plan by a licensed surveyor, proof of land ownership or lease, and, for some projects, an EPA permit and fire safety approval. Our permit guide lists everything.
Can I start building with just the permit processing receipt?
No. A receipt for processing fees is not a permit. Building before the permit is issued risks enforcement action, including demolition.
